How It Works

Malta Citizenship by Investment

(Maltese Exceptional Investor Naturalisation)

Goal

This program offers a direct route to citizenship for those willing to make substantial investments in Malta.

Residency Requirements

There is no minimum stay requirement, and permanent residency is granted immediately upon meeting the program’s conditions.

Investment Requirements

A main contribution to Malta’s National Social Development Fund of €600,000 (for a 36-month residency) or €750,000 (for a 12-month residency). Additional contributions of €50,000 per dependent included in the application. A real estate commitment, requiring the purchase of a property worth at least €700,000 or renting a property for a minimum of €16,000 annually for five years. A minimum donation of €10,000 to an NGO or charity approved by the Maltese government is also required.

Visa-Free Travel

Permanent residents enjoy visa-free travel within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. However, this program does not grant visa-free access to the USA or the UK.

Taxation

Successful applicants are not automatically classified as Maltese tax residents unless they reside in Malta for more than 183 days per year.

Family Inclusion

Spouses, children, and dependents can be included in the application for an additional contribution.

For individuals seeking to establish a long-term residence in Malta without pursuing citizenship, the Malta Permanent Residence Program (MPRP) offers a practical and affordable solution. This program provides a straightforward route to permanent residency with numerous benefits.

Goal

This program is ideal for those looking to secure permanent residency in Malta without the need for citizenship.

Residency Requirements

Applicants are not required to reside in Malta prior to the approval of their application. Once they have obtained residency, they have no minimum stay requirements in Malta, though if they spend more than 183days in Malta within a calendar they would become tax resident in Malta. MPRP does not grant an automatic route to Citizenship, though if one has spent more than 7 years in Malta and has strong links to the Island, they may be in a position to apply for Citizenship by Naturalisation.

Investment Requirements

A Government Contribution of €30,000 if purchasing a property in Malta or of €60,000 if renting a property in Malta.

An Administration Fee payable to Residency Malta of €50,000 for the main applicant and €10,000 for every added dependent.

Real estate commitments requiring either the purchase of a property worth at least €375,000 in Malta or Gozo or renting a property for a minimum of €14,000 annually, in Malta or Gozo.

Citizenship & Benefits

After fulfilling the requirements, applicants and their families gain Maltese residency, enabling them to live in Malta and also visa-free travel to 186 countries, including the Schengen Area, USA, and UK for a period of 90days within every 180days period.

Taxation

Permanent residency does not automatically make applicants subject to Maltese taxation unless they spend more than 183 days per year in the country.

Family Inclusion

Spouses, children, and other dependents can be included in the application, with lower additional fees compared to the Citizenship by Investment program.
